Enjoy life’s beautiful moments.
100 day project 2021: 100 Moments
In this project have collected images from people like you!
In this series I aim to capture beauty in simple moments. I hope you feel the emotion and joy that I have felt as I painted each of these. Each one has a special story, which I included below. They are 5x7”, painted on paper with rich India Ink. I chose the ink because I love the fluidity that allows for wonderful expression, as well as great detail.
Enjoy!
Day 1 " I have always loved the admiration my younger daughter has for her big sister."
Day 2 There is something so wonderful when you catch a glimpse of a father reaching out in a very tangible display of support to a child. Here a father wraps his arm around his teenage son, letting him know he’s there for him with love.
Day 3 When a smile for a picture becomes obnoxious and uncomfortable, quickly shifting into a real one hoping the moment will end....which soon turns into giggles!!
Day 4 “My daughter was telling me what she thought of the giant frog statue and was telling me a made up story about it. I think this shows how great our chats are together. I love hearing her stories and telling her mine. We just like being together, sharing moments.”
Day 5 "This is a dear friend of the family, with her husband. She just got diagnosed with terminal cancer. I love this photo of her embracing her husband. So tender and loving. You can feel her adoration of him."
Day 6 “I can hear my boys saying 'cheese!' For the camera when I look at this. I can feel the warmth of the sun. And it makes me miss summer, a time when we are out in our front yard all the time, visiting with our wonderful neighbours and looking after our flowers.”
Day 7 "I love how they just love being together so close and in such a random spot. Life for a child is just so much about the present; that is what is precious to me. They remind me to live in the moment more."
Day 8 “When I think back on my days with three tiny tiny people, i feel so tired... but also miss those babies so much.”
Day 9 “It was a late summer/early fall day and all the grandkids and I went for a walk around our little lake. Minnie was so happy to be outside and was having such a good time. She was truly radiated the delight she was feeling.”
Day 10 “With 11 years between them, they are such great friends. They share hugs and teases. They share tender moments like this one, playing piano together. These two will always be siblings. And I really believe they will always be great friends."
Day 11 "My little guy has very few words and his big sister is determined to help her brother read. This was taken when we first started working with him using the book. It’s one of my favourite pictures of them."
Day 12 "I took my student paints out last summer and just let my kids go nuts with them.... and Zoe got more paint on her body than on the paper!”
Day 13 “I came across this photo shared by a friend of her father, who has now passed away. I love the expression on his face. Her comment was ‘he was always doing crosswords when he came to visit’ He looks comfortable, relaxed, enjoying life and his expression is full of love and happiness!”
Day 14 “This was definitely my dad's personality. He was reserved, but every once in a while he'd let loose and we'd see this side of him. This picture was taken at my cousin's wedding. Shows how happy my parents were."
Day 15 “I think it’s cute how they can’t talk to each other yet but yet they find ways to bond and laugh together. Even through youngest is just staring to talk these girls are often laughing together and find ways to be silly with each other. I think this has been one of my favorite things as a parent. To see my kids become friends.”
Day 16 “While I was busy with another dog, Muffin (dog) suddenly stood up and came to me and simply sat on my lap, innocently staring. My friend asked me to look up for a perfect picture with Muffin. Even though me being afraid of dogs, that day I found only LOVE from those dogs, especially Muffin who at the end became my favourite one.”
Day 17 "This is her high school graduation day, 2020, the Covid quarantine grad! Such a different experience than she wanted or expected, but she made it fun and light and had a great time anyway. She’s my last baby and I was so proud to see my 'baby' girl graduate high school.”
Day 18 "We don’t usually take a lot of candid shots so this picture is really special to me and I think captures our mutual love for each other!"
Day 19 "I just love this photo. Their relationship is so special but they were sweeter like this when they were younger. Now that they're older, moments like these don't happen anymore."
Day 20 "This picture was taken by mom a couple days after I brought my son home from the hospital in October. I’m so happy she captured this moment of one of the best and worst times in my life. I was so exhausted and in so much pain, but the love I felt for this little guy was so complete and overwhelming. I feel like you can see the joy through the pain in this moment.”
Day 21 “This is my (then) 6 year old son. We were visiting Cambodia, and this is him with a Buddhist nun in a local temple in Siem Reap.”
Day 22 " I love seeing how all my kids hang out and laugh and teach each other. I remember a time when my oldest piggy-backed his 6 year old sister down the high school hallway. It warmed me heart! This image very much represents the fun relationship between all of my kids."
Day 23 "I cannot think of my friend, Carol, without thinking of her son, Evan. It is evident he means the world to her. One of the most remarkable art endeavours I have seen is Carol's Growth Series of watercolour paintings. Every year she has created a large painting of Evan, representing that year of his life. So far it includes over 30 paintings"
Day 24 “After 2 miscarriages, a chemical pregnancy, and being a pregnant nurse at the start of the pandemic ... I just wasn’t sure that I’d ever have a 2nd baby. This picture is just the epitome of the joy I felt over finally being able to bring this baby boy into the world and watch my daughter turn into the world’s best big sister .”
Day 25 “I love this photo because to me it captures carefree childhood days.”
Day 26 “2020 was a rough year for my Dad. He battled cancer all while we couldn’t be with him because of covid. We were all reminded of the importance of family and close relationships. My dad treasures the memories he has of him and his older brother growing up together. He loves this picture of him and Glen (brother) fishing together!"
Day 27 "This is my oldest and youngest enjoying a random warm day in December at a park. My oldest is pushing the baby in a swing and their expressions are both pure joy. It's one of my favorites.”
Day 28 “Here are my two youngest girls and the older one had crawled over to lie right next to the baby to get a closer look. It seems to sum up their sisterly bond - wanting to be close but with just a little smirk of mischievousness. Her look says to me, you’re cute but I better keep an eye on you.”
Day 29 "This photo means more than words as I lost my dad in 2015. It always seemed like him and I were just on a casual walk, talking about life in the picture, when really it was us coming down the aisle."
Day 30 "My niece in her element... She is a creative soul through and through! She loves to sew, craft, draw....anything she can get her hands on. Every time I see her she shows me something she designed or created!"
Day 31 "They are the closest in age (17 months apart) and have always been really good friends. They have games that just the two of them like to do together and they can always count on each other as a playmate if everyone else is busy. This photo really captures their personalities. Arthur is goofy and is always trying to make people laugh. Elise is quiet and sweet but is learning to use her voice to speak up about what she wants. Love them both so much.”
Day 32 "Baby Casey was born to my sweet cousin, Paula, later in life. After much heartache and hardship most of us will not need to endure, Casey is a great blessing in her little family's life."
Day 33 " It shows the innocent love and future that young people have when they have found each other - carefree, unconditional and promising -each what you wish for every person to experience and keep for the rest of their life."
Day 34 "My dear friend, Maria passed away from sepsis New Year’s Eve 2019. I cannot express enough what a great example of Christ-like love she was to all she encountered. These blossom filled trees lined our street when we were room mates together. I adore her younger sister Marion, who is with her here."
Day 35 "My dear friend, Maria passed away from sepsis New Year’s Eve 2019. I cannot express enough what a great example of Christ-like love she was to all she encountered. Her sister, Melissa, is also dear to me. I love seeing this image of them together. These two were inseperable."
Day 36 "Elijah has this sweet and tender heart which leads to these situations. No matter if he wants to read the book or not, he absolutely cannot say no to his little sister. I cherish these moments. They really don't last forever."
